Also known as Bull-head Pond-lily, Spatterdock, Yellow Pond Lily, and Yellow Corn Lily, this native perennial is a member of the Nymphaeaceae family. This floating aquatic plant grows along streams, in marshes, ponds and swamps in the Algonquin Highlands.
Its yellow flower blooms from June through August. Its leaves are rounded basal lobes with a narrow notch, and rest on the water surface, while the flowers rise above on stems.
Its roots are bitter, but contain a quantity of starch and were once eaten like a potato.
