Bear’s Head, also known as Lion’s Main, is admired for its beauty. The main plant has a thick supporting stalk protruding from the stump or log’s side that it inhabits. From this stalk, fertile branches then spread hanging clusters of spines. These spines are white in colour, and with time, they become brownish growing in lengths up to 4 cm long. The overall appearance looks like a frozen Canadian winter waterfall.
Another close species is the Comb Tooth, habiting Ontario and Eastern Canada, and the American Coral Tooth mushroom, habiting Western North America. All three species are commonly mistaken for each other.
