The False Puffball, also known as Pigskin Poison Puffball, has a large fruiting body, and reaches 2-10 cm in diameter. Its surface is yellow, sometimes mixed with a brown colour. The False Puffball surface is scaly, hard, cracked, and has tough outer rinds. The spore portion varies in colour, at first thick and white, changing to a purple-black mixture, then becomes black-brown in a powder form. They can be found growing on the ground singularly or in clusters. You might find them on rotting wood, prevalent in Summer and Fall.
