White Spongy Trunk Rot, also known as Tinder Conch or Tinder Polypore, is a bracket-form fungus, which grows to sizes of up to 20 cm wide and is generally taller than it is wide. Its colour may vary but is generally a mix of grey, black, and brown. It has a smooth texture. White Spongy Trunk Rot is very common and is found on deciduous trees and logs, causing decay to live trees. As its name indicates, it has been used as tinder for starting fires. Removal of infected trees help reduces transition of infecting airborne spores. A fungus that is present all year, it has a variety of uses all over the world, from medicine to use during religious rituals.
