The Red Belt Polypore, also known as Red Banded Polypore, is stalkless and has a hard, 5 – 40 cm wide, flat, cap that is convex or hoof-shaped. It gets its name from the presence of a red-brown ring on the upper edge of the fruit body. It is yellowish to orange-red, and with age, changes to red-brown or black. The Red Belt Polypore habits dead trees, logs, stumps, and rarely living trees, with a preference of Spruce. It can be found during all seasons. This fungus aids in the natural forest recycling process.
