The Lacquered Polypore, also known as Ling Chi, is a stalked or bracket mushroom with an appealing, elongated varnished surface. The size ranges in width from 5 to 30 cm, with colours of red, bright yellow, and white that adds to its beauty. The pores are indicated by their white-cream colours. If a stem is present, it will commonly be 3 to 14 cm in height and 3 cm thick. Fruiting begins in Spring, and matures during the Summer months. The Lacquered Polypore has a preference for logs and stumps of hardwoods and is particularly fond of Sugar Maples.
