The Tawny Pluteus, also known as the Deer Mushroom, has a 1-10 cm wide cap and is fawn-coloured with pink gills. It can be found singly or in clusters. The white stem measures 5-13 cm long, sometimes tapered larger at the bottom and may be streaked with brownish fibers. This species is known as wood decay fungi, favoring growth on hardwoods, especially logs well progressed in the decaying stage. They are commonly found in non-traditional mushroom periods and appear from Spring to Fall and during warmer winter periods.
