The Rosy Russula consists of about 750 species worldwide. It has a 4-10 cm wide, convex cap with a brittle, smooth surface that is sometimes upturned. It is bright to dark red, and with age, may fade to a pink colour with white-yellow blotches. The gills are indicated by their white to creamy to pale yellow colour with a white spore print. The brittle stem measures 5-10 cm high by 1-2.5 cm in diameter. It has a pink to rose colour and sometimes tapers at the peak. The Rosy Russula tends to habit Pine areas and is prevalent Fall to early Spring. It is commonly mistaken as a Russula rosacea.
