The Pine Cone Mushroom has a disc-shaped, 1.0-2.5 cm wide, convex, cap. It is tan to brown in colour, fading near the outer areas. The white to tan stalks measure up to 5 cm high and are slender and fuzzy, with white spore prints. The Pinecone Mushroom fruits primarily on conifer cones during extended wet weather and uses them as their only food source.
