The Oyster Mushroom has a large (5-25 cm wide), fan-shaped cap that is whitish to grayish-brown in colour. They extend beyond one another so they appear like overlapping shelves. Its name comes from its fruiting mushroom body that is shell-like in appearance. Its gills are whitish or yellow-tinged. The Oyster Mushroom prefers a habitat of dead hardwood trees or logs. It is prevalently fruiting during Fall to mid-Winter.
