Hornemann’s Stropharia has a 2-13 cm, convex to flat, reddish-brown to purplish-brown cap that has a lighter colouring on its edge. The cap feel slimy when moist conditions are present. The whitish-yellow stalk grows to 15 cm high and generally 2 cm in width. It is shaggy, almost scaled below its ring. The Hornemann’s Stropharia prefers a growth habitat of rotting wood or in the ground, and is commonly found under conifers.
