The Golden Pholiota gives the appearance of a yellow marshmallow roasted in a campfire. The yellow, slimy, shiny, convex cap has golden brown scales and measures 5- 15cm. The spores are on the brown underside, and the stalk generally measures 10 cm tall by 1.2 cm in width. The Golden Pholiota prefers habitats of deciduous and coniferous rotting wood, trees, logs, and stumps. They are abundant in clusters during Autumn.
