When young they are pale, but as they mature they become a dark gray or very dark brown colour, with darker ridges and lighter, honeycombed pits. The caps rand from 2 to 4 cm wide and 2 to 5 cm high. Its stem, a whitish or dirty brown colour, is 2 to 10 cm high and 2 to 4 cm thick.
