As its name suggest, this Bolete is very bitter tasting. The Bitter Bolete has a domed cap (that later flattens) and measures 8-25 cm in diameter. It has a finely felt-like or suede surface. Its stalk of 15 cm in height tapers larger at the bottom. Its colours range from tan to mixtures, including yellow, olive, and red with brown. The delicate pores turn brown with handling. It will grow in coniferous or mixed wooded areas and is prevalent during the months of August to November.
