BROOK TROUT
Salvelinus fontinalis
The Brook Trout, a favourite target for fisherman, are commonly 900 grams or less in weight, measuring a trophy length of 25-60 cm, and a lifespan maximum of five years. The body of the Brook Trout has a background colour of dark olive, mixed with brown and red spotted colour shades. Unlike the Lake Trout, the Brook Trout’s tail is not deeply forked. These fish have a diet of water insects, worms, and even salamanders. This species, preferring cooler water than most, is commonly stocked to help support the population, allowing fisherman to pursue them in the enjoyment of their sport.
