Longnose Suckers live in the clear, cold waters in both lakes and rivers, found throughout the Algonquin Highlands. Suckers usually have mouths with thick lips and toothless jaws. It grows to lengths of 30 to 45 cm and weighs 340 to 900 g. It is dark green to almost black on its back and upper sides, and light beige to white on its lower sides, head and body. Spawning occurs in the Spring before the White Sucker. During this season, both males and females have a reddish band on the sides of their bodies.
It is the prey of Ospreys and Bear, while it is typically a bottom feeder, feeding on aquatic invertebrates. Like the White Sucker, it too provides a commercial fishing value, under the name mullet.
