PEARL DACE
Margariscus margarita
The Pearl Dace is a member of the Minnow family and prefers cool water, bog ponds lakes and lakes. The Dace commonly reaches sizes of 7-10 cm. Its elongated body, dark back and silvery side with lateral lines, and white belly can distinguish this fish. Spawning occurs in late Spring, early Summer, on sand or gravel-bottomed streams. The female spawns with different matured males aged 2 years and older, and usually the dominant male of that territory, laying the eggs then finding the next mate. No nest is made. The Pearl Dace’s diet consists of clams, snails, small fish and water insects. This fish species is commonly the diet of larger fish.
