MIMIC SHINER
Notropis volucellus
The Mimic Shiner, a member of the Minnow family, is at home in quieter waters, lakes or streams. This fish is recognized by its deep yellow back, semi-transparent silver side, sideways line and the pointed dorsal fins. It grows to a maximum length of 7-8 cm. June-July is when spawning occurs, at ages one to three. Its diet consists of water insects, zooplankton, algae and is fond of Midge adults and larvae.
