The Longnose Dace prefers streams and vigorous water. Spawning occurs in late Spring, in a nest that both mates have constructed from pebbles. The eggs are then left to fend for themselves. Shortly after hatching, the young migrate to calmer waters till they reach approximately 7-8 months of age. The Longnose Dace can be identified from its colourization of olive-brown on its back, moving to a beige-coloured stomach and its size of 5-8 cm. The Daces diet consists mostly of insect larvae, algae, worms, with a favouring of black fly larvae.
