FALLFISH
Semotilus corporalis
The Fallfish, a member of the Minnow family, tends to grow larger in size than people normally think, reaching sizes of up to 42 cm. Generally not favoured for consumption by anglers, their rebellious nature from capture places them as a favorite sport fish. Commonly they are reused as bait after capture. The domain of fast, clear moving streams is the home of their youth, while later in their life venturing into deep-water areas. The spawning habits of the Fallfish male, who has a pink tint during spawning, is tasked with construction of a nest, which is rather large (approximate: length 120 cm, width 45 cm) compared to other species. Being a member of the Minnow family, the Fallfish’s diet is similar to others: consuming water insects, crayfish and other smaller fish.
