The Blacknose Dace is a speckled minnow with the appearance of a racing stripe on its side from nose to tail. A small fish, the Blacknose Dace normally never exceeds 7.5 cm in length. With the short life span of 2-4 years the Dace is a territorial fish, guarding its region, as well as its eggs, from predators that include fellow Dace. The colouring of its fins change to red as well as an overall green tint indicates a male during breeding season.
The predators of the Dace include birds as well as Anglers, who have developed a fondness for using them as bait.
