Notropis heterodon
The Blackchin, a back-stripped minnow, about 5 – 8 cm in length, has a fondness to the shallow lake areas as well as rivers that have a weeded area containing a slow clear current. The diet of the Blackchin is a variety of open water insects as well as a assortment of vegetation. The Blackchin presence is a good indication of good water with low silt content.
