The Ling, also known as a Burbot, a member of the Cod family, is a nocturnal fish, feeding at night on water insects, crayfish and other fish species. The Burbot gives a confusing appearance; of a mixture between a fish and eel. In fact, their small, profoundly embedded scales give the slimy feeling of an eel. Their length ranges from 35 to 55 cm.
Spawning during the winter under the ice, the Burbot does not make use of a nest. Instead it spreads the eggs over the water bottom. For those not deterred by the appearance, this fishs liver makes for a good meal.
