The Smallmouth Bass, a member of the Sunfish family, prefers clear, warm lakes and rivers and habit rocky shores and shoal areas. This fish has a mixture of brown, gold, and olive colours on its back and 8-11 vertical dark bars on its side. Their small mouths do not go past their eye. Spawning occurs in May to July period, with a male building a nest, then herding the female inside where she deposits two to ten thousand eggs. The male stands guard over the nest, protecting it from predators. The diet of the Smallmouth Bass consists of crayfish, frogs, insects, and other fish.
