This medium-sized Lesser Fritillary is brownish-orange above, with black lines and dashes at the base of their wings. Their underside has metallic silver spots The wingspan ranges from
3.5 5.1 cm.
Moist meadows, marshes and bogs in the Algonquin Highlands are the favourite habitat for these butterflies. There is one flight from June to July. Adults prefer the nectar of Red Clover, Goldenrod and other flowers.
Eggs are cream-coloured and laid singly near Violet plants. Caterpillars feed on the Violet leaves. They are brownish-black mottled with yellow and gray, with yellowish spines.
