The Golden Eagle is only a visitor to the Algonquin Highlands. They are large graceful birds, dark in colour, with a pale golden nape. They have a small, dark bill, and measure about 75 to 105 cm. They live in mountain forests and open grasslands, but can be found in any habitat during migration.
The Golden Eagle preys mainly on jackrabbits and large rodents, as well as carrion. They can be seen drifting over the area in search of wolf-kills.
Nests consist of a large mass of sticks, placed on a rocky ledge or tall tree. They will produce 1 to 4 whitish eggs, either unmarked or speckled with dark brown. The call of the Golden Eagle is a high pitched kee-kee-kee, as well as a scream or squeal, although they are usually silent.
